3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax 16 oz. - 39030

The Wax Alternative!

3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax bonds to the paintís surface to form a layer of protection for your carís surface. Use 3Mís Performance Finish Synthetic Wax anywhere you would use wax, paint sealant, polish or silicone-containing products.

3M scientists have developed a truly innovative product that provides an extremely durable, long-lasting and high gloss finish. It has the superior longevity and easy application of a paint sealant plus the extreme shine of a wax.

3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax is an alternative to natural waxes, which have a great shine but short-lived protection. 3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax is an entirely synthetic, silicone-based sealant that bonds to the paint to block out UV rays, moisture, and contaminants. The slick formula produces a reflective shine that lasts for months.

3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax is a professional grade auto finish. Apply it with your polisher or by hand.

To apply with a polisher:
  1. Apply a thin, uniform film to the paint using a finishing pad (CCS gray or Edge white). This is a wipe on, wipe off product. There is no need to let it dry.
  2. Buff off residue with a soft microfiber bonnet over a lambswool pad on your polisher, or a Microfiber Detailing Cloth.
To apply by hand:
  1. Wipe on a thin layer of 3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax using a foam or microfiber applicator.
  2. Buff off the residue using a Microfiber Detailing Cloth.
Multiple coats are not necessary. 3M Performance Finish Synthetic Wax protects and shines for months with just one coat.

Best ever and no need to let it dry to a chalking white powder
November 16, 2015
It's a GREAT product. I've used it for years with great success. It last at least 6 months longer than Meguias synthetic type wax, and if you get it on grainy black plastic you can remove it with leaving a permanently stained finish.
Lasts and lasts and outlasts any thing on the market with superior shine and protection and you DO NOT LET it DRY to that dry chalky white finish - you wipe it on and come back after you've applied it and then wipe it off,
smell - it's a 'Made In the 3M Laboratory' chemical product after all ;-)

Very easy to use, good gloss.
February 23, 2015
Very easy to use with a nice gloss. Other reviewers who wrote about how the product doesn't haze, didn't read the directions. Its not suppose to. It is a wipe on, wipe off thing. It should NOT be allowed to dry. If you follow the directions, I think you'll find it works very well.
Ease of use and final gloss.

Great wax, eventually..
June 22, 2013
A great polymer product. Quite easy and fast to use, why eventually? After buffing off while wet, sure it leaves a nice shiny surface, removal can be a bit trcky at first. It can leave a few streaks but can be removed with a damp microfiber so it's a minor issue. Upon removal, the paint feels a bit tacky at first.. after a few hours, the finish feels A LOT SLICKER than immediately. Just not too sure how durable it is, but 3M makes quality products.

Easy to use, Great shine
January 17, 2013
Very fast and easy to use product, makes metallic flakes pop, gives a deep shine with brightness also. Streak free, but you must have a couple of Microfiber buffing towels to really give that even, streak free finish. Shine and slickness improves after several hours or the following day even if it doesn't say in the instructions. Why 4/5? I can't say this is a perfect product, I do have issues with it wanting to dry to a haze, but it's all minor, but this is a very good product and is not that pricey.

Fast, Good Shine and depth
January 16, 2013
A fast, convenient product to use. Gives a decent shine. Adds depth on black paint, brings out metallic flakes as well, doesn't leave a finish that's too bright. Takes a bit of getting used to, must be worked fast to prevent it from hazing which can result to a bit of smearing. If it happens, it's not too hard to remove. Durability seems very good for a product that's quite easy and fast to apply and remove. This would go well with my 3M Quick Wax which in my experience has pretty good durability and depth.

Fast, easy to use but...
August 13, 2012
A fast polymer wax to use. Meaning, you have to move fast or it can dry up and make removal a bit harder and will streak. You should use it like you're in a bit of a hurry, apply thinly and evenly and remove immediately. It may feel a bit unusual at first and may feel like you didn't really wax your car, but do it that way and you'll find the fast application appealing. Why only 3 stars? Durability is only average, but the overall results are very good especially for a wipe-on, wipe-off product. Good results achived very quickly.

Not worth it...
May 27, 2012
Tricky to use, a wipe on wipe off product. Should be removed before it dries or else you may experience smearing or unevenness, the problem is it dries even as you're applying it on the paint and even when used very sparingly and it easily loads up the foam applicators. Shine on silver is good though, and it adds depth while bringing out the flake, slickness is similar to NXT 2, durability isn't that good too. Should have been easier to use, there are better products out there. 3M makes good products, but this one in my experience doesn't cut it.

Ok, nothing special
May 4, 2012
Quite a ridiculous product. Supposed to be a wipe-pn, wipe-off product which i suppose should make it easier to use, but NO. Even when applied at a section at a time, it starts to dry to a haze, which makes it streak a bit. What's the point of making this a WOWO type product if it has these issues? it only makes it harder to use, which it is compared to NXT 2.0 and FX synwax by mothers. Heads should have been used in making this product. And the longevity of this doesn't make it worth purchasing again. Too bad, it gives a nice shine, but nothing worth raving about.

Great product!!
May 1, 2012
I use this over XMT 360. It leaves a lasting slick finish. I reapply about every 6 weeks or so and it prevents most contaminants from adhering to the finish. I've even had tree sap easily wash off. Far better product than Meguir's NXT 2.0!

Just Ok
March 11, 2012
I just used this sealant today, over two panels with XMT 360 and two with Poli-Seal.It reduced the slickness of the two and sterilized the look of them as well! I sure it will last long, but if you are picky about slickness and looks the are better choices I'm sure.

Great stuff

I've always respected 3M products and this one is a real winner. The shine is very good and the water-beading is unbelievable. The application was pretty easy and it is suppose to outlast most waxes.

Ok product
December 15, 2011
Should have been easy ro use, but NXT 2.0 is still easier to use even if this 3m is a wipe on, wipe off product. Shine is ok though. but the older showcar wax by 3m seems to give a more spectacukar shine than this. I know i'll get to like this in time. It does give the 3m shine that i remember, but still not as wow as expected. And here where i live at least, it costs only half of the SRP of the nxt and even the fx liquid

slick and long lasting
July 18, 2011
My wife's car and my pickup truck are daily drivers kept outside in South Florida. 3m performance finish gives them a slick and exceptionally long lasting coating. Excellent polymer shine. Make sure to prep (clay and polish) paint first. You can wipe on wipe off or let it dry to a haze. Just make sure you apply a thin layer. Very user friendly. Top with your favorite carnauba wax for more depth if you want. ( I like Pinnacle Liquid Souveran.)

great product
September 5, 2010
this is a great product. I did find a difference in the application suggestions though. The 3M website says not to allow the product to dry but apply and then wipe off and do not allow it to dry to a haze. So I followed the 3M directions and it worked just fine. Provides a nice long lasting shine.

Does 3M still make this?

Bought a bottle and it is unbeliveable. Best I've used and I've tried everything. I want to buy more but can't find it in stores or on the 3M website.

Tried this the other day on my Corvette. Very easy on and off, and it leaves the surface very slick. The depth of shine was equal to anything else I have used, some products costing much more. We will see how it lasts, but after taking a drive the other day I picked up a few bugs and they easily just wiped off the surface! So far a great product at a very good price. We will see how long it lasts.

I'm drinking the Kool-Aid
August 7, 2008
Just purchased this product last night, searching for a protectant for my Acura TL. I've experimented with every wax on the shelf, normally use Black Magic, Turtle Wax Ice, or Gold Class with mixed emotions, I'm very finiky with my car's shine. Black Magic takes an eternity to get off without streaking, Meguires gloss isn't very durable in Northern Ohio with all this rain, as is the durability of ICE. Applied 3M Performance last night to my car after clay bar and polishing it first. This product is one of the easiest products to apply, wipe on and immediately wipe off. Make sure you read the directions, you really don't want this stuff to dry to a haze. Apply it in sections, I have an orbital buffer, but I just did this by hand since it was so easy and quick. Since I was running out of daylight, I couldn't tell how lustrious the shine was, but this morning I was pretty impressed. I think this pops better than Klasse. So far, I'm a 3M believer, especially for the price. I looked on other blogs, say they've gone 10 washes before having to apply a new coat. I recommend it so far, but we'll see in a few Toledo weeks how well this holds up to the rain and road grime.

3M Performance Finish is fantastic!
January 30, 2008
I have been a faithful NXT Tech Wax user for a couple of years now, with the new "hydrophobic" NXT 2.0 for two months now, but I decided to get 3M Performance Finish and do a side by side comparison. to really see what's what and if there are any differences. Now all waxes are hydrophobic as they all repel water. That said, out of the bottle they both looked pretty much the same, both soft and slick to the touch, and both displaying a beautiful wet looking gloss, but that's where the similarities end. When both were exposed to rain the next day, both beaded water nicely, but the 3M side did a better job of keeping more water off the surface, instead of simply keeping beaded water inplace and intact where it can dry into waterspots. As far as durability, 3M Performance Finish has been tested in the harsh Minnesota winter and has been proven to last and maintain its gloss and slickness up to 50 washes, unlike NXT 1 that has had issues with durability. However, NXT 2.0 seems to have overcome this although it needs to be reapplied every 3 months to maximize, according to their reps. And finally where 3M edges out NXT is that, NXT needs to dry to a haze before buffing out which is usually 15 mins or so, and much longer in colder temperature, whereas with the 3M Perfomance you wipe it on and then INSTANTLY wipe it off!! Btw, this sites directions in applying are incorrect. Now, I will say that NXT does smell nicer, but so what. Although you won't be disappointed with NXT 2.0, nevertheless, I want a wax that works fast, looks wet and awesome and is very durable, which is why for me, the 3M Performance Finish has now become my main go to wax from here on out, which I also touch up with the 3M Quick Wax Detailer, another fanastic new 3M product. When I even compared that to Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer, I found both are great and do their jobs identically, leaving the finish looking clean as if I finished washing and waxing. At any rate, I have to say that UQD seems to have attracted a tinge more dust when I compared the two sides, but furthermore since the UQD also costs a few dollars more, here again, for me, based on my overall comparisons, the 3M Performance Finish and Quick Wax combo, in my opinion, is unparalleled!
