Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge – Fine Grade

A speedy solution for removing bonded contaminants

The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge provides a quick and easy way of removing gloss-hindering above-surface contaminants from your vehicle’s finish. Manufactured with a high-tech rubber polymerized face, the Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge removes bonded contaminants in half the time it takes a traditional detailing clay bar. The fine grade Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge is ideal for vehicles that are well maintained.

The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge is the first step to achieving smooth, glossy paint. It’s imperative that you remove above-surface contaminants before you polish or wax. Above-surface contaminants include paint overspray, bugs, tar, rail dust, industrial fall out and more! By removing said contaminants, you create a smooth foundation that will allow a wax, sealant or coating to form a much stronger bond. The cleaner the surface, the longer your wax, sealant or coating will last.

The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge is arguably the best investment you can make in detailing supplies under 15 bucks. This durable sponge can be used, abused, washed and reused over and over again. How many times have you heard someone say that about a clay bar? None! The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge lasts considerably longer than a traditional detailing clay bar thanks to its unique construction. What’s more, if you drop the Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge on the ground, simply rinse it off with water!

The Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge Fine Grade is ideal for vehicles that are new or well-maintained. The high-tech rubber polymerized coating will safely remove above-surface contaminants without scratching or marring the finish. From our testing, we’ve found that Nanoskin GLIDE is the best lubricant to use with the Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge.

I too was skeptical
Same as others, I didn't think it would work. Especially since it's much cheaper than other Clay alternatives. Easy to use, seems to be holding up well. I've only done 2 cars, but it shows no signs of wear, and I've been pretty rough with it(dropped it, wrung it out, scrubbed against a Grit Gaurd, even stepped on it) At $13, it was definitely worth the risk. I've not dropped a piece of clay yet, but I'm always being careful with them, which slows me down just as much as the kneading. Another plus is my hands are not worn out after decontamination like they are with clay (which is great, because claying is nowhere near my final steps of a job). The fine grade does not completely eliminate the need for actual clay, so I will be trying out the medium grade soon. Also, it works great with ONR as a clay lube, which I'm sure you all know is CHEAP.
ProsI love the fact that I can clay a car in less than half the time it takes with normal clay, and this is even factoring in that "real" clay is needed for some areas of most vehicles.

Excellent Time Saver
I had my doubts that this would behave just like a clay bar. Boy was I wrong. Works just as well as any clay bar I've used without the folding and turning. The only time I had to switch to a regular clay bar was when I needed a more aggressive grade on some lower body panels. As others have said, if you drop it just rinse it off and you are good to go.

far better than clay
Used this on a brand new 2016 CRV. Made my paint pop. Very smooth. Buy it, you will not go back to clay.
ProsLast longer than clay, does a faster, better job. If drpped, can be rinsed and reused.

Good But Doesn't Replace True Clay
Used this for the first time on a brand new pearl white Toyota, 7 months old. Paint had never been clayed or waxed. I used Meg's QD as lubricant and overall, the sponge did smooth out the surface. However, stubborn spots still required traditional clay. After hitting those spots with some Meg's C2000 clay i just decided to go over the entire vehicle with it, resulting in a noticeably smoother finish. Overall, this sponge is great for a new vehicle or one without a neglected finish. You can cover a vehicle quickly and if you drop it just rinse it off. Note: I can't comment on whether the sponge added any swirl marks or fine scratches because this particular paint color hides those blemishes very well and in my lighting condition (outside/garage) I couldn't see them.
ProsWashable Faster than working with traditional clay No special storage requirements / won't dry out like clay Good for a well maintained surface to take out light contamination
ConsDoesn't remove all contaminants that a mild clay would

Great product
I have used the Nanoskin sponge on my 2015 Corvette and my 2011 Crew cab truck (it sits out in the elements). I am thoroughly impressed at the ease this product removes the surface contaminants and leaves it ready for wax. I have never done my truck and after washing, it took about 1 hour with the Nanoskin and it was baby smooth.
ProsSo easy to use.

Much faster than clay
This is much much faster, and seems to work just as well as detailing clay. I guess the only downside would be the cost (although it's reusable) and it's size. I might upgrade to the DA sized one eventually.
ProsFast, works well, easy to clean/reuse

Great little tool
I used this on my wife's +1 year old car. The car had never been waxed, just ran through the auto car washes. It was really easy to use (I used 2oz of ONR with 32oz of distilled water as lube) and did not take near as long as I thought it would. The paint was nice and smooth when I was done. Can't beat it for the $$$. BTW, trim your nails and don't grip too tight while using (see picture).
ProsInexpensive, easy to grip, works great.

Works, but little practical advantage for manual use
I was curious about all the hoo-haw about Nanoskin so I bought this as an experiment. I am happy to report that it works just fine. I only clay my car once a year, so I can't speak to its long-term durability, but I would be surprised if it weren't at least OK--probably its pretty good. I see Nanoskin as something that would offer a real advantage to those who use it on a dual action polisher. Any pro should definitely use this product. Active hobbyists should as well. Me? Yeah, I'll probably break down and buy the bonnet. I have that very expensive Dual Action polisher I have to justify.
ProsWorks. Probably is a handy thing to have for those who go to a Nanoskin bonnet for a dual action polisher for getting to the smaller spots.
ConsNo real advantage to those who substitute this for an occasional clay bar of a car by hand. The whole Nanoskin thing is sort of of a rip. This is really just a bit of plastic that happens to be the right consistency to act as a clay bar. Its not high tech. But its priced right at the clay bar price. I guess that's just Econ 101.

Better than "Clay"
I have been a long time "clay" fan. I found it to be the best way to get my paint ready for wax. Over time clay has become more expensive, the bars are small and harder to find. Nonoskin has solved this problem. This pad is easier to use because you can get a good rip on it. If you drop it just wash it off. cleans like clay and will be usable a lot longer. I would only use a clay bar once maybe twice, but the Nanoskin may be washed and used over and over. A "Best Buy"!
