A stable, flexible base for your paint correction jobs!
The Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate provides your buffing pads with a stable, yet flexible, base to maximize all your paint correction potential! With a 5-inch diameter, the Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate will allow you to use 5- or 6-inch pads without any worry about backing plate overlap or reduced polisher driving power due to too much pad overlap. The hook-and-loop face of the Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate allows you to use the vast majority of modern pads without any worries! The flexible foam insert between the face and the core allows the Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate to flex and conform to the shape and curve of the panel to increase control of the polisher and increase pad contact while buffing! The Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate has a standard 5/8 x 11 threading, making it compatible will all rotary and circular polishers.
All buffing pads are constructed using materials that, while offering great potential for abrasion, are not very rigid. While this is necessary in order for the pad to bend and contour the curves of panels, it makes them incapable of holding their own shape under pressure. That and the lack of ability to attach securely to a machine polisher means that you need an intermediary between the pad and your polisher to actually use your polisher. This intermediary is a backing plate like the Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate.
The Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate walks the fine line between being rigid enough to provide proper support for the pad while also being flexible enough to allow it to contour to the curve of the panel. The flexible foam insert of the pad will bend slightly when under pressure on a curved panel, allowing the entirety of the pad to remain in constant contact with the panel. This means that no part of the pad will be off the paint while you are working.
There are a few benefits to this:
1. If only part of the pad were in contact with the paint, your polisher would start to "walk" you along the panel due to uneven force on opposite sides of the axis.
2. Since the entire face of the pad is on the surface, you won't have to worry about product splattering off the pad and across the paint as the pad is free spinning over the panel.
3. You will get consistent results along the entire curve of the panel rather than spotty correction due to inconsistent pad contact.
If you spend a lot of time correction paint on cars that have medium or large panels, like 2-door and 4-doors sedans, 5- or 6-inch pads are ideal. This is because they are large enough to cover a good bit of area at one time, which will speed up the paint correction process since you can work on a larger area of paint. Also, these pads will not be SO large that you will have trouble maintaining even pad contact along any curved sections of the panel. The Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate has a 5-inch diameter, meaning that you can reliably use 5- or 6-inch pads without any worry about backing plate overlap (which risks the backing plate coming in contact with the paint and leaving scratches) or reduced polisher driving power due to too much pad overlap!
The hook-and-loop face of the Buff and Shine 5-Inch Rotary Backing Plate allows you to use any modern hook-and-loop pads like the Buff and Shine 5.5 Inch Flat Foam Pads.
The Buff and Shine 5.5 Inch Flat Foam Pads has a 5/8 x 11 threading that makes it compatible with any rotary or circular polisher.
