Transparent protection where your vehicle needs it most.
3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films are just like the protection films offered by car dealerships for around $120, but you can apply them yourself for a fraction of the cost! These clear, adhesive films protect door edges from chips and abrasion. They require no special care and they virtually disappear when applied to the doors. Use 3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films on most cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans.
We've all seen what regular wear and tear can do to the paint at the edge of a car door. It sometimes looks like the paint is worn off! The paint at panel edges is thinner and it needs protection to keep it in tact over the life of your vehicle. 3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films provide clear protection against rocks, door dings, abrasion, and weathering. The film strips are clear coated to resist yellowing and staining.
The film is extremely durable.
3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films are incredibly durable! This product line was created during the Vietnam war to help protect helicopter blades from being damaged in battles where shrapnel would hit the blade. You can see from the image to the right that a screwdriver will not pierce the tough material.
Installation is easy. Make sure the door edges are clean and free of waxes or oils. Simply peel back the protective paper as you press the 3M film along the edge of the door with half the film extended beyond the edge of the door. Press the film strip to eliminate any air bubbles. Then fold the film over the door edge and press it down on the back of the door edge.
Note: If the doors already have paint chips, you can apply touch-up paint prior to applying 3M Scotchgard Door Edge Paint Protection Films. Allow the paint to fully dry before applying the films.
Once 3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films are applied, no special care is needed. After 24 hours, the vehicle can be washed and waxed as usual. If you ever want to remove 3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films, they peel off cleanly with no damage to the paint.
3M Door Edge Paint Protection Films are made from the same material as the professionally installed product offered by car dealerships. Get the same protection for approximately 1/10 of the price dealerships charge!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I use wax over 3M Paint Protection Film?
Yes. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft cloth, such as a 3M™ Microfiber Detail Cloth (39016). Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used.
What products does 3M recommend to best maintain 3M™ Paint Protection Film? 3M makes a variety of products to help maintain the beauty of your vehicle. 3M™ Car Wash Soap (3M Part #39000), 3M™ Show Car Paste Wax (3M Part #39526) and 3M™ Liquid Wax (3M Part #39026). The best surface cloth to use is a very soft, clean microfiber towel.
How is 3M Paint Protection Film removed?
If desired, film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and vehicle are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M Adhesive Remover (3M Part #03618), according to the package directions.
If 3M Paint Protection Film is removed from the vehicle, can it be re-used?
Once the film has been applied and set, the adhesive will not stick a second time.
After 3M Paint Protection Film has been removed, how do I get any excess adhesive off my vehicle?
If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M Adhesive Remover (3M Part #03618), according to the package directions.

I have used the 3M door edge film for years on virtually every car and truck that I own as well as all of my kids' cars. In the past this product came in a roll and was very easy to apply. 3M now packages this product 2 strips to a package on one paper backing. The material is thicker and I think just a little wider. It's much harder to apply - especially if the car door has any curvature to it all. It's much harder to get it on free of air bubbles and to wrap it around the door edge. I was not satisfied with the results.
Thicker material should be more durable and protective
Hard to apply
Two strips on one backing
Adhesive seems weak

After seeing other Mercedes cars with their door edge protection installed, I called my MB dealer to see what it would cost to have this protection strip installed on my SL500. The price was $100 installed on both doors. I decided to investigate a do-it-yourself method and ordered a length of clear U-shaped vinyl material that had a glue strip in the center. I installed the strip on one door and wasn't very pleased with the appearance- too apparent. After one day in the sun, the stripping peeled off the door in a sticky mess. That was the end of that!
I then looked further on the Internet for the same product that I had seen at the dealership. That's when I found Autogeek.net and this Door Edge Paint Protection Film product. This 3M product was the very same stripping used by my MB dealer but it cost less than $15 including shipping.
The film went on very easily and looks absolutely transparent. No matching the stripping color to the paint, no filmy plastic look, absolutely invisible. This is the real thing. Amazing product.

Even though I followed the instructions carefully, the tape didn't adhere very well
